As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity and fullness, resulting in wrinkles, lines, and hollow areas. But with dermal fillers, clients can enjoy supple, smooth skin that looks younger and completely gorgeous. There are a variety of dermal fillers available on the market today. Each one is made from different materials and is designed to treat specific areas of the face. To learn more about each of them, read on.
Why Do I Struggle With Volume Loss in My Skin?
As we age, our skin naturally begins to lose some of its key supportive ingredients like collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. These are the compounds that keep the skin supple, perky, and moisturized, so without them, our skin starts to sag and wrinkle. Additionally, things like sun damage, poor diet, exposure to air pollution, and unhealthy lifestyle choices can compound these effects, leading to premature aging.
What Are Some of the Fillers Available?
Juvederm
Juvederm is a dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid, which means it works by attracting and holding water molecules in the skin. This gives the appearance of plumper, more youthful skin. Depending on your type, results can last between six months and an incredible eighteen months. There are many different types of Juvederm products available on the market today. Each designed to treat specific areas of the face and achieve specific results.
The most popular is Ultra Plus, which is ideal for treating moderate to severe wrinkles and lines around the mouth and nose plus adding volume to the lips. Another popular filler is Voluma, which is specifically designed to add volume to the cheeks and can also lift and contour the face. Vollure is a newer filler that is designed to treat moderate to severe wrinkles and lines around the mouth. Finally, Volbella is specifically designed to add volume to the lips.
Radiesse
Radiesse is a filler that can be used to add volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The active ingredient in this product is calcium hydroxylapatite, a naturally-occurring substance found in our bones and teeth. For this reason, it’s a thicker consistency than other products and can give the face a dramatic restructuring. When injected into the skin, it provides lift and support, giving a more sculpted jawline and fuller cheeks alongside wrinkle reduction. Results can last for up to two years.
RHA Fillers
RHA fillers are also made from hyaluronic acid, but with a key difference: it’s a higher concentration, which is thought to make them more effective at adding volume to the skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. They undergo a very minimal refining process, which means they move naturally within the skin. These have also been specifically formulated to cause fewer side effects. They also have been designed to last for up to fifteen months.
How Do I Decide Which Treatment To Use?
An important part of this process is an initial consultation. This is a chat with a member of our team, where we will ask about your medical history and conduct a physical examination. We will also assess the condition of your skin. You’ll have the opportunity to talk us about your cosmetic concerns and goals, and we can work together to decide if one of these treatments will be the best course of action for you and which one to work with.
What Will the Injections Be Like?
Treatment is performed in-house at whichever location is most convenient for you. During the appointment, your aesthetics practitioner will clean your skin and apply a topical numbing cream. They will then pressurize the filler into your desired area. The entire treatment is typically completed in 30-120 minutes, with minimal discomfort. After the enhancement procedure, your aesthetics practitioner will advise you of any activities you’ll need to avoid in the next few hours to best let the product settle and your skin heal. Then you’ll be free to go!
What Are the Benefits of These Treatments?
Instant Results
One of the biggest advantages of fillers is that they provide immediate results – clients walk away from enhancements with their skin already looking more plump and hydrated. This is in contrast to other cosmetic treatments, such as Botox injections, which can take up to two weeks to start working. Clients love that after they’ve noticed the initial results, the effects will only continue to develop, becoming more striking as sagging skin lifts and wrinkles soften. The full effects are usually realized after about ten days.
Minimally Invasive
Another big advantage of these treatments is that they are minimally invasive. Unlike surgery, there is no need for anesthesia or any type of incision during treatment. This is great news for anyone worried about the infection risk that comes with “going under the knife”, or fears an anesthesia allergy. Simple pressurizations also mean you won’t need to take any time off work or life while your face heals afterward – you can leave immediately afterward and carry on with your day!
Natural-Looking Results
The results of these enhancement treatments are also very natural-looking. Unlike surgeries that see very significant results, these results only enhance your existing beauty and face aesthetics, giving you a rejuvenated look that’s striking yet subtle. If you want to tell people you simply had a fantastic facial, you’ll be able to! That being said, products like Radiesse can give you more noticeable, dramatic changes to your lips and cheeks, so there’s something for everyone in these treatments.

4. WARNING: DISTANT SPREAD OF TOXIN EFFECT
Postmarketing reports indicate that the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic and all botulinum toxin products may spread from the area of injection to produce symptoms consistent with botulinum toxin effects. These may include asthenia, generalized muscle weakness, diplopia, ptosis, dysphagia, dysphonia, dysarthria, urinary incontinence and breathing difficulties. These symptoms have been reported hours to weeks after injection. Swallowing and breathing difficulties can be life threatening and there have been reports of death. The risk of symptoms is probably greatest in children treated for spasticity but symptoms can also occur in adults treated for spasticity and other conditions, particularly in those patients who have an underlying condition that would predispose them to these symptoms. In unapproved uses, including spasticity in children, and in approved indications, cases of spread of effect have been reported at doses comparable to those used to treat cervical dystonia and upper limb spasticity and at lower doses
